Wall Street’s Ups and Downzzz

Wall Street Chart
Wall Street has rallied today on better-than-expected results and the blue chip index rose 200 points. Good stuff, in an otherwise bad stuff time. Intel, Coca-Cola, and JPMorgan beat analysts expectations, and more quarterly results are on the way. Great. Seriously, I mean that, but forgive me as I wax philosophical today (I think that’s how you phrase it, but give me a pass if it isn’t).

I think I woke up a little jaded today–yes, a little more jaded than usual, for whatever reason. I check the financial news every day, just as I check the new in politics, travel, technology, and all of the other areas that interest me. It’s a habit–never miss the day’s news. I’m addicted to 60 Minutes, Dateline, the New York Times. But Wall Street and the stock market have been killing me recently, and perhaps it has nothing to do with the bad or good news as much as the ups and downs. What do I mean? Well, stock prices go up, stock prices go down, and so do interest rates, and every other rate associated with making money. It’s an antipodal ping pong match. Sure, prices change, but they either go up or down. There’s no chaos theory, no Holy Crap! moment, where something really strange happens. Not really.

What’s my point? There is none. No point. Just an observation. Remember, I said I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Waxing philosophical (sorry, love writing it). It’s the nature of the beast, I think, that makes sense while not making sense. Pouring money into the stock market, watching it go up–Yay!, go down–ugh!, and diversifying the heck out of these things you pour your money into so you can grow that piggy bank. I get it. Just sometimes, I wish it was more unpredictable. No–I mean more than it is, anyway.
