Oil Profits Go Through Roof

April 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Oil Profits are Skyrocketing. And We’re Paying $4 at the Pump?

Oil Money

BP and Shell posted record profits from record crude oil prices–to the tune of $17 Billion! I don’t know about you, but that infuriates me. I’m intentionally not driving anywhere because of how costly gas is, yet the oil companies are continuing to reap the rewards of their pillaging.

BP alone posted a 63% first quarter net profit of $7.6 Billion. $7.6 Billion people! That’s no chump change. Shares of BP rose 5.7%. Of course, oil executives say they aren’t to blame. But it seems like a lot of fluff to me, saying that they aren’t to blame yet their profits are so ridiculously out of whack, I can’t see how they aren’t.

If gas is as high as it is, and oil profits are as high as they are, wouldn’t it make sense to lower the profits the companies are making so the average Joe can be able to make a living and still eat? How about the CEOs of these companies don’t go home with $400 million.
